When the collision between Felix Rosenqvist and James Hinchcliffe happened, the leaders in the laps before were passed by other runners. That was when the new leader Herta speeded up to leave all of his opponents behind without any problems.
Just in the previous lap, he was still in the third position, and followed by Josef Newgarden at the fourth place. After the collision, they ended up with the first and the second rankings. This partially lucky win made Herta the youngest ever winner of this Indy car race, when he is only 18 years, 11 months and 25 days old.
Before this lap, the best runner is always polesitter Power, and he actually made a highly expected good start. The second position was Rossi and the strong third was Herta. He ended Lap 12 with the third place and picked up a set of blacks which has been used, before making a spectacular change in rankings of the next lap.
When the dominant driver Will Power gave up, there was a big chance for Colton Herta to make the history, and he was successful. The previous person to hold this record is Graham Rahal, when he won the race at the age of 19 back in 2008.
With this win, Herta ranked second in the series point, just after Newgarden. There are many dramas happened in the race, including the refusion of IndyCar to enforce track limits, Zach Veach offroading after his first lap, and the sudden incidents on pit lane. All of them contribute to this record of Colton Herta.
However, he did not join his partners after the win. Instead, he simply said he wanted to take a short nap when climbing off his car.
